Next Nokia minitablet to get Webcam, WiMax? | CNET News.com
fter the success of its original Linux tablet, the 770, Nokia is looking at the next generation of Internet-only devices.
The original tablet device debuted last year and caught the attention of gadget fans wondering why Nokia was making a device that had no cellular connectivity. According to the handset maker, there are no plans for the next generation of 770-style devices to be able to connect to mobile networks.
Ari Virtanen, vice president of convergence products at Nokia, said going down the cellular-free route gave the company more freedom. "The biggest thing is that we don't want to be part of the cellular value chain," he said. "We want to be a little bit out of that world. Once you put a SIM card in, it's automatically controlled by the operator."

I've got a Nokia 770!
Yesterday I received my Nokia 770. First impression: the device has great potential, and is a nice hacker toy (woohoo, Linux!), but it is not ready to replace my PDA (Tungsten T). Palm makes everything it can do more convenient. Of course, my Palm doesn't have 802.11b/g, nor a good web browser...

Google Groups: comp.lang.ruby
I recently purchased a Nokia 770 wireless Internet Tablet
(http://europe.nokia.com/nokia/0,,75023,00.html) and a few days ago I
successfully ported Ruby 1.8.4 to it. For those of you who are
unfamiliar w/the 770, it's Nokia's first such non-phone product (or so
they claim): a very nifty hand-held "PC" that among other things runs a
pared down version of Linux (from kernel.org, debian package), has
built in wifi and bluetooth, includes email client, Opera browser, RSS
client, audio and video, all displayed on an 800x480x16bpp display.
The 770 will sense any available wifi connection and jack in
effortlessly. And, if you have a bluetooth-ready cell phone, the 770
can jack into that too and provide an internet connection via GPRS
anywhere your cell has a signal (very cool indeed.) Before porting
Ruby to it, it was love at first sight. Now I'm ecstatic.

Asterisk 1.2.1 on Nokia 770
Asterisk 1.2.1 on Nokia 770
(Please excuse the ugly appearance, I'm better at coding than design :).)
This page details the procedure that I followed in order to obtain a working (as in "non-crashing") version of Asterisk 1.2.1 (the latest release from Digium) on the Nokia770.
If you're in a hurry or you don't want to mess with compiling and Scratchbox (or you simply don't know what those are), just skip ahead to the binaries.

Paid features include "call outs" to non-SIP-based phones, and a 10-digit U.S. phone number, to support incoming calls.

Nokia 770 Internet Tablet
I've enjoyed exploring the new Nokia 770 Internet Tablet, a sleek hand-held, multi-function device that supports Web browsing, sending and receiving e-mail, playing audio, displaying video, and more. It connects to the Internet either over a home or public WiFi network or through a Bluetooth-enabled cell phone. Connecting this device to my secure WiFi network was a snap.

770 Periphery
Joy, I finally have USB host mode working, now I can start on one app I’d like for the 770 (to be announced…) I soldered +5 inside a powered Iogear GUH274 micro hub, and then used an adapter from a USB connector kit I bought at a bargain store strictly for its humor value. In addition to the connector I used, the kit included adapters from USB to RJ11 and RJ45, that let you turn the included USB male to male cable (an abominination in and of itself) to a phone cable or ethernet extension cable.
